Real Ramsey project
— Grading, Clearing & Excavation

The work that happens before the work

Every shop, driveway, addition, fence line, and backyard project starts the same way: with a piece of ground that isn’t ready. It’s got trees on it, or brush, or it slopes the wrong way, or water pools where the slab is supposed to go. Ramsey Contracting handles that part. We clear it, grade it, dig it, and leave you with a site that’s ready for whatever comes next.

A lot of our clearing and grading work leads into something else we build, like a fence, a shop with an epoxy floor, or an addition. Doing the site work and the build with the same company means the grade is right for the structure that’s going on it, and nobody’s pointing fingers when the water runs the wrong way.

Graded and cleared lot around a new barn

What we do

Land and lot clearing.

Trees, stumps, brush, and undergrowth removed to open up a lot for building, a pasture, a driveway, or just a usable yard.

Forestry mulching and brush cutting.

For overgrown acreage, fence lines, and trails, a mulching head grinds brush and small trees in place and leaves a clean layer of mulch on the ground. No burn piles, no hauling, and the ground is ready to walk the same day.

Grading.

Rough grading to establish the shape of a site and finish grading to get it smooth and sloped for drainage. Building pads, driveways, yards, and shop sites.

Excavation.

Digging for foundations, footings, slabs, retaining walls, drainage lines, and utility trenches.

Drainage correction.

Regrading yards that hold water, cutting swales, installing French drains and catch basins, and moving water away from the house.

Driveways and gravel.

Cutting in new gravel driveways, widening existing ones, and adding or regrading gravel.

Site prep for builds.

Pads for shops, barns, garages, sheds, pools, and additions, graded and compacted to the right elevation.

Erosion control.

Silt fence, straw, and stabilization for cleared sites.

— How we do it

How we approach site work

1

Walk it first.

We come out and walk the property with you. We look at where the water goes now, where you want things to go, what’s in the way, and what the ground is like. We’ll talk through what’s realistic and what’s going to cost more than it’s worth.

2

Plan and estimate.

You get a written estimate that lists clearing, grading, hauling, materials, and any drainage work separately, so you know what you’re paying for and can adjust the scope if you need to.

3

Utilities and permits.

We call 811 before we dig and help you sort out whether your job needs a permit or an erosion plan.

4

The work.

Clearing first, then rough grade, then any excavation or drainage, then finish grade. We compact in lifts where a structure is going so the pad doesn’t settle later.

5

Cleanup.

Debris hauled or mulched, ruts smoothed, and the site left ready for what’s next.

Before · During · After

Inspected three times

We walk every site before we start, while the work is happening, and when it’s done. The crew leader and project manager check grades and drainage before we call it finished, and then we walk it with you. On dirt work, the mistake you don’t catch is the one you find after the first hard rain. We’d rather catch it with a level and a laser than with a flooded pad.

Why it matters to get the grade right

Water always wins. If a pad is a few inches off, a slab cracks. If a yard slopes toward the house, the crawlspace floods. If a driveway is cut without a crown, it washes out every spring. Grading is the least visible part of any project and the one that causes the most expensive problems when it’s wrong. We treat it like it matters, because it does.

Straight pricing

Site work is priced by the job, based on acreage, how thick the growth is, how much dirt needs to move, hauling, and materials. We’ll walk it, look at it honestly, and give you a real number. If a bid is much cheaper, ask what they’re doing with the stumps and where the water’s going to go. We’re rarely the cheapest and rarely the highest. We’re the most direct.

Bigger jobs, anywhere in Georgia

Most of our clearing and grading work is in our six-county area, but for larger clearing and site prep jobs we’ll travel anywhere in the state. Call and tell us what you’ve got.

We offer financing on qualifying projects. Ask when you call.
