Real Ramsey project
— Carpet

Carpet still makes sense in a lot of rooms

Hard floors have taken over most of the house, and we install plenty of them. But walk into a bedroom on a January morning and you’ll remember why carpet exists. It’s warm, it’s quiet, it’s forgiving on knees and toddlers, and it makes a room feel finished in a way tile never will.

Ramsey Contracting installs new carpet and pad throughout West Georgia. We handle the tear-out, the subfloor, the tack strip, the seams, and the stretch, and we do all of it with the same attention we give a hardwood floor. Carpet is often treated as the “easy” flooring. Installed carelessly, it wrinkles, the seams show, and it wears out years early. Installed right, it looks good for a long time.

Staircase with new carpet

Where carpet works best

Bedrooms.

The number one place we install it. Warm, quiet, and comfortable.

Stairs.

Carpet on stairs is safer, especially for kids and older folks, and it cuts down on noise. Stairs are also where bad installs show first, so they need a crew that knows how to do them.

Basements and bonus rooms.

With the right moisture-resistant pad, carpet turns a cold basement into a room people actually use.

Family rooms and playrooms.

Kids fall. Carpet is kinder.

Rentals.

A solid mid-grade carpet is still one of the most cost-effective ways to turn a unit around.

Picking the right carpet

There are more options than most people expect, and the differences matter.

We bring samples to your house so you can see them in your own light and feel them under your own feet.

Fiber.

Nylon is the most durable and holds up to heavy traffic. Polyester is softer and more stain-resistant, at a lower price. Triexta (sold under names like SmartStrand) is a newer fiber that’s tough and very stain-resistant. Wool is beautiful and expensive.

Style.

Plush is smooth and formal. Textured is the most common and hides footprints. Frieze is twisty and casual. Berber (loop pile) is durable and good for basements and high-traffic rooms.

Pad.

Don’t let anyone talk you into skipping on the pad. A good pad makes a cheap carpet feel better and a good carpet last longer. We’ll recommend the right density and thickness for the room.

— How we do it

How we install carpet

1

Tear-out and haul-away.

Old carpet, old pad, old tack strip, all gone. We check the subfloor while it’s exposed.

2

Subfloor prep.

Squeaks get screwed down. Soft spots get replaced. Concrete gets cleaned and checked for moisture. This is where install-only crews cut corners, and it’s why their carpet fails early.

3

Tack strip and pad.

New tack strip around the perimeter and fresh pad, seamed and stapled or glued down.

4

Layout and seaming.

We plan seams to fall where they’ll be least visible and run them in the direction of the light. Seams are heat-sealed so they don’t peak or fray.

5

Power stretching.

Every room gets stretched with a power stretcher, not just a knee kicker. That’s the difference between carpet that stays flat for ten years and carpet that wrinkles in two.

6

Trim and transitions.

Clean tuck at the walls and proper transitions to hard floors.

7

Cleanup.

We vacuum, remove scraps, and leave the room ready for furniture.

Walked three times

Every carpet job gets inspected before we start, while we’re working, and when we’re done. The crew leader and project manager each sign off. We check seams, edges, stretch, and stairs before you ever see it. Plenty of installers never look at their own work. We look at it twice.

Estimates without surprises

We’ll measure your rooms, talk through the options, and write up an estimate that separates carpet, pad, prep, and labor. If we think the subfloor might need attention, we’ll tell you before the old carpet comes up so nothing shows up later as a surprise.

A note on what we don't do

We’re a flooring installation company, not a repair service. We don’t offer carpet stretching, patching, or small repairs as standalone jobs, and we don’t travel outside our service area for them. If you need new carpet installed, we’re the right call. If you need one wrinkle fixed, we’re probably not.

Financing available

We offer financing on qualifying projects, so carpeting the whole upstairs doesn’t have to wait. Just ask.
