Real Ramsey project
— Painting

Painting is where Ramsey Contracting grew up

Before we were a full-service contractor, we were painters. It’s the trade that took us from fence staining on my dad’s crew to full interiors, exteriors, and eventually whole-house work. We’ve put a lot of coats on a lot of walls in West Georgia, and we’ve learned that the finish you see is only as good as the work you don’t.

Anybody can roll paint. What separates a job that still looks good in eight years from one that’s peeling in two is what happens before the can gets opened.

What we paint

Interior painting.

Walls, ceilings, trim, doors, and closets. Whole-house repaints, single rooms, or the one hallway that’s been bugging you. We handle drywall patching, nail-pop repair, caulking, and popcorn ceiling removal as part of the prep, so you’re not hiring two crews.

Exterior painting.

Siding, trim, fascia, soffits, shutters, doors, and porches. We pressure wash, scrape, sand, prime bare spots, and caulk gaps before the first coat goes on. Georgia sun and humidity are hard on paint, so we use exterior products built for it.

Cabinet painting and refinishing.

A kitchen can look brand new without replacing a single cabinet. We remove doors and drawer fronts, degrease, sand, prime with a bonding primer, and spray for a smooth factory-style finish.

Decks, fences, and stain work.

Solid or semi-transparent stains and sealers for wood that lives outside. This is where we started, and we still love it. See Fence & Deck Staining →

Commercial painting.

Offices, retail spaces, and light commercial buildings. We work around your hours so you’re not closing the doors to get the walls done.

— How we do it

How we prep, and why it matters

Here’s what goes into a Ramsey paint job before any color shows up.

1

Protection.

Floors covered, furniture moved or wrapped, fixtures masked. Your house should look exactly the same when we leave, except for the paint.

2

Surface repair.

Holes patched, cracks filled, loose caulk cut out and replaced, rough spots sanded. On exteriors, rotten trim gets flagged and replaced, not painted over.

3

Cleaning.

Interior walls get wiped down. Exteriors get pressure washed so the paint bonds to the house, not to a layer of dirt and mildew.

4

Primer where it's needed.

Bare wood, patched drywall, stained areas, and big color changes all get primed. Skipping primer is one of the most common shortcuts out there, and it’s why so many paint jobs fail early.

5

Two coats, every time.

One coat is a touch-up. Two coats is a paint job.

3×
Before · During · After

Inspected three times

Every painting job we do gets walked before, during, and after. The crew leader and the project manager both check the work and sign off before we call it finished. Then we walk it with you.

That’s not something most painting crews do. Plenty of them run in, roll it, and leave, and nobody looks at the cut lines or the drips behind the door until you find them. We don’t work that way. If we wouldn’t accept it in our own house, it doesn’t pass.

Straight estimates, no games

When we come out, we’re going to look at the actual condition of your walls or siding, talk about the colors and finish you want, and give you a written estimate that spells out what’s included. Prep, primer, number of coats, products, and timeline. That way you can compare bids on what’s actually being done, not just the bottom line.

We’re usually not the cheapest number you’ll get. We’re also not the highest. What we try to be is the most direct: here’s the problem, here’s what fixes it, here’s what that costs.

Color help

Not sure what color? That’s normal. We can give you a handful of options that work with your flooring, cabinets, and light, and we can put samples on the wall so you see them in your own space before we commit. It’s a lot easier to change your mind on a sample board than on a whole living room.

Painting and the rest of the house

A lot of painting jobs turn into something bigger once the walls are open. Maybe the floors should go in first. Maybe the bathroom that’s getting painted really needs a new vanity. Since we handle flooring, kitchens, baths, and trim work in-house, we can sequence the whole project so the paint goes on last and stays clean.
